Neurodivergent Counselor in Training Associate
Nicole is an Integrative Counsellor in the final stages of her training and a registered student member of the BACP. She works primarily from a humanistic perspective, drawing on Person-Centred and Gestalt approaches. She also has a growing interest in Transactional Analysis, Attachment Theory and somatic, body-based work.
Nicole is mindful of the many ways neurodivergent people experience the world, think, feel and relate to others. Her work recognises the impact that masking, trauma and misunderstanding can have on neurodivergent individuals. She offers a neurodivergent-affirming counselling space, free from preconceived ideas or judgement, where each person can be met with curiosity, respect and compassion.
She values the uniqueness, authenticity and quirks that make people beautifully human. Nicole has supported autistic, ADHD and other neurodivergent children and adults, as well as people with learning difficulties and disabilities, throughout her career in schools and support roles. She has also gained experience through her work with Childline and other community mental health settings.
Nicole has supported clients experiencing anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, addiction-related challenges and low self-esteem. She has a particular interest in supporting complex trauma related to neurodivergence.
Nicole is self identified autistic and a mother to two autistic children. Her personal and professional experience has given her a deep understanding of what can help create a “neuro-safe” therapeutic space. She understands, accepts, values and celebrates different neurotypes, while recognising that showing one’s authentic self can sometimes feel difficult or overwhelming.
Her ethos is to use therapeutic safety as a foundation for empowerment. Nicole’s counselling space welcomes people from all walks of life and offers a safe place for gentle exploration, healing and growth. She is a warm, grounded counsellor who adapts her approach to suit the individual cognitive profiles, communication styles and needs of neurodivergent clients.
