Autism coaching and mentoring and reasonable adjustments

At Autism Spectrum Psychotherapy Ltd, we offer autism mentoring and coaching to support autistic individuals in understanding their needs, building on their strengths and navigating everyday life in ways that work for them.

We recognise that autistic people may face challenges in environments that do not always accommodate their communication styles, sensory needs or ways of processing information. Our approach is individualised, collaborative and neurodiversity-affirming, focusing on practical support without expecting individuals to mask their autistic traits or conform to neurotypical expectations.

Our mentoring and coaching may include:

  • Self-understanding and self-advocacy: Developing a better understanding of autism, personal strengths, needs and preferences.
  • Emotional regulation: Identifying triggers, recognising overwhelm and developing personalised strategies to manage stress and anxiety.
  • Everyday life and executive functioning: Exploring routines, organisation, planning, transitions and strategies for managing daily responsibilities.
  • Relationships and communication:Understanding different communication styles, navigating social situations and developing confidence in expressing needs and boundaries.
  • Education and employment: Exploring challenges in educational and workplace settings, building confidence and identifying appropriate support.
  • Reasonable adjustments: Identifying and recommending practical adjustments to help reduce barriers in the workplace, education and everyday environments. This may include sensory accommodations, flexible working arrangements, written instructions, changes to communication methods, structured routines and support with requesting adjustments as well as writing a clinical report to recommend specific work adjustments.
  • Sensory needs and wellbeing:Identifying sensory preferences, managing overload and balancing demands with recovery time.

– Confidence and independence: Supporting individuals to make informed choices, work towards personal goals and develop greater autonomy at their own pace.

Our approach starts with the individual. We recognise that there is no single way to be neurodivergent  and that support should reflect each person’s circumstances, goals and priorities. We work collaboratively to identify barriers, explore practical solutions and help individuals communicate their needs effectively.

Our aim is to help neurodivergent individuals develop greater self-understanding, confidence and independence, while ensuring their needs are recognised and appropriate adjustments are explored to support their participation and wellbeing.
